It was a warm, sunny December afternoon when my mother was suddenly rushed to
the hospital. The house was littered with wrappings and accessories from
earlier that Christmas morning. It was, however, the following morning
that I decided to enter the world, saving my mother the trouble from having to
clean up after the celebration (a consideration that, to this day, I have
still not been properly thanked for).
Anyway, the day was December 26, 1973
in Redlands, California.
It was in California that I learned to swim and, of course, play
<a href="/~jerparks/soccer/">soccer</a>. <p>
Five years passed before we decided to move to Las Cruces, New Mexico, a
place I had never heard of. Before leaving, I retired from the swim club after
two years of faithful service, and ventured into Las Cruces ready for new
excitement... like baseball, basketball, and, of course, more soccer. It
was here that I also learned to play the piano and then the clarinet. <p>
High School came and went, as I am a graduate with a 4.17 GPA and fifth in my
class from Mayfield High School. During high school I was involved in the
marching band and symphonic winds, and later in German Club and National Honors
Society. I was also a four year player and three year captain of the varsity
soccer team. I was chosen to All-State three years for both the clarinet and
in soccer. <p>
Currently I am a senior in electrical engineering with a 3.50 GPA and 151
credit hours here at <a href="http://www.nmsu.edu">New Mexico State University
</a>. My <a href="/~jerparks/resume.html">résumé </a> is available for
those
interested in a formal approach to my life. In my freshman year I went out and
played (really practiced) with the football team as a place kicker. After my
one semester of football, I decided to go back to a real sport and played the
following year for, of course, the soccer team. However, every fall I have
helped to coach the boys varsity soccer team at my old high school. This is
an experience that I greatly appreciate. I enjoy teaching younger men
the fine (and sometimes major) points of soccer. Aside from sports,
I attend
<a href="/~jerparks/north/">Northminster Presbyterian Church</a>, I am the
Sergeant at Arms for the Presbyterian Campus Ministry
(PCM), and I am the treasurer for the Alternative Collegiate Computing
Association <a href="http://www.polylith.com">(ACCA)</a>. <p>
In addition to all these exciting activities, I also enjoy
